Turning back time

It's not too often that you get a chance to step back in time and recapture a piece of your youth, at least in spirit.  But when those chances do come along, I live by the philosophy that you've got to grab them, immerse yourself and savor them, at least in spirit.  For those of you who knew me before I was 25, I'm sure that the first thing that came to mind when thinking "Dan Glasstetter in Amsterdam?  Sure! That makes perfect sense."  For those of you who only know me after 25, you're probably thinking "Dan Glasstetter went to the Landjuweel festival in Ruigoord?  Really? You're kidding me!"

Well, let's just say that last weekend I grabbed a hold of one of those rare "turn back time" opportunities and took Beth on the August full moon pilgrimage to Ruigoord.  We talked to the artists.  We partied in the church.  We danced in the mud.  We were Hippies for a day - cool!  Here are some pics from the festival.

Something tells me his old guy tell some stories about his experience at Woodstock.  We saw lots of 50+ers around the party.
...but there were also a ton of kids, with plenty of puppet shows...

...and paper machete zoo's to keep them entertained.

What surprised me most were the twenty-somethings like this group hanging out in a tree platform.  I don't know why, but I never really think of this age group as being interested in such an old-fashioned approach toward counter culture.

Into the mud pit for a really great Reggae band.

But I have to say that we didn't get quite as "involved" as some of the dancers.  Some pictures wouldn't make it past the Facebook censors.

Hula hoops are all the rage with the hippies this year.  It was amazing what this girl could do with it.

Chilling out at the central fire-pit with the lady-in-white keeping watch.

But what's Landjuweel really all about?  Open expression.  Music venues that anyone can take up....

...and as always in Ruigoord....funky art.   Until the next August full moon...peace, man.
